Main course
Bò Lá Lốt are small rolls of seasoned ground beef that you wrap in betel leaves and grill. The leaves pick up a toasted flavor on the grill and give the meat a peppery, herbal taste. Eat the rolls as an appetizer or with rice noodles, salad and a dipping sauce.

Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef
- 40 betel leaves
- 2 shallots, finely chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp fish sauce
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp five-spice powder
- 8 wooden skewers, soaked
Instructions
- Finely chop the shallots and garlic.
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef with the shallots, garlic, fish sauce, sugar, salt, pepper and five-spice powder.
- Take about 1 tbsp of the meat mixture and shape it into a small oblong.
- Wrap the meat in a betel leaf, then thread it onto a wooden skewer.
- Repeat until all the ingredients are used.
- Preheat the grill and grill the skewers for about 5 to 7 minutes, until the meat is cooked through and the leaves are slightly charred.
- Serve the grilled skewers warm.
