Main dish
Bulgogi is a classic of Korean cooking: thin slices of beef that you marinate in soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, garlic and ginger and then grill over high heat. The meat stays tender as long as the slices spend only 1 to 2 minutes per side on the grill. Serve it with rice or in lettuce leaves.

Ingredients
- 500 g beef (sirloin or ribeye), thinly sliced
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1 tbsp ginger, grated
- 1 small onion, cut into thin rings
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 scallions, sliced into rings
- pepper to taste
Instructions
- Put the beef in a large bowl. Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, garlic, ginger and pepper and knead everything with your hands until all the slices are coated.
- Mix in the onion rings, cover the bowl and marinate the meat in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Overnight, it gets more flavorful.
- Preheat a grill pan or the grill to high heat. Spread the meat in a single layer without overlapping slices and work in several batches.
- Grill the meat for 1 to 2 minutes per side, until cooked through and lightly caramelized at the edges.
- Sprinkle the bulgogi with sesame seeds and scallions and serve with rice if you like.
