Main dish
Hei Hu Jiao Niu Li is thinly sliced beef that you stir-fry in a wok with onion and bell pepper and season with coarsely ground black pepper. The pepper adds a warm heat, and soy sauce and oyster sauce make a savory, lightly sweet sauce. The dish is on the table in 35 minutes.

Ingredients
- 400 g beef, cut into thin slices
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
- 2 tbsp black pepper, coarsely ground
- Salt to taste
- Scallions, for garnish
Instructions
- 1. Marinate the beef with the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch and sugar in a bowl and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- 2. Heat the olive oil in a wok or large pan.
- 3. Add the garlic and fry briefly until fragrant.
- 4. Add the marinated beef and sear it quickly over high heat until almost done.
- 5. Add the onion and red bell pepper and keep frying until the vegetables soften.
- 6. Stir in the black pepper and salt to taste.
- 7. Mix everything well and fry for 2 more minutes.
- 8. Garnish with scallions and serve hot.
