Main course
Ikan Bakar is a popular dish from Southeast Asia in which the fish is marinated in a spiced marinade and then grilled. Grilling gives the fish a smoky aroma and a tangy, spicy flavor.

Ingredients
- 4 medium fish fillets (e.g. mackerel, tilapia)
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 piece of ginger (about 2 cm), grated
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp tamarind paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp lime juice
- 1 tsp chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
Instructions
- Rinse the fish fillets under running water and pat dry.
- In a bowl, stir the garlic, ginger, soy sauce, tamarind paste, turmeric, lime juice, chili powder and salt into a smooth marinade.
- Turn the fish fillets in the marinade until evenly coated.
- Cover the marinated fillets and let them sit in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the grill and grill the fillets over medium heat for about 5 to 7 minutes on each side, until cooked through.
- While grilling, brush the fillets with a little coconut oil to keep them from drying out.
