Kkwabaegi are traditional Korean donuts, known for their twisted shape and sweet, sugary coating. These light, slightly crisp treats are a popular snack in Korea and go well with tea or coffee.

Ingredients
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 200 ml milk, lukewarm
- 10 g dry yeast
- 50 g sugar
- 1 egg
- 50 g melted butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Olive oil for frying
- 100 g sugar for coating
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Sift the flour into a large bowl. Add the sugar, dry yeast and salt and mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, melted butter and egg.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until you have a smooth dough.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
- Turn the risen dough onto a lightly floured surface and divide it into 10 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a long rope, then twist it into a spiral to get the classic kkwabaegi shape.
- Let the shaped donuts rise for another 15 minutes.
- Heat the oil in a large pot or deep fryer and fry the donuts over medium heat until golden brown.
- Drain the finished donuts on paper towels, then roll them in the sugar and cinnamon mixture while still warm.
- Arrange on a serving plate and serve warm.
