Luo bo gao, also known as radish cake, is a traditional Chinese dish often made for Chinese New Year. It is a mixture of grated radish and rice flour that is cooked together, then sliced and fried.

Ingredients
- 500 g white radish (daikon), grated
- 200 g rice flour
- 50 g ham, diced
- 50 g dried shrimp, soaked and chopped
- 2 scallions, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp white pepper
- 500 ml water
- 3 tbsp oil for frying
Instructions
- 1. Cover the radish with a little water in a pot and bring to a boil. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until the radish is soft.
- 2. Drain the radish and save the cooking water. Put the radish in a large bowl.
- 3. Add the rice flour, ham, shrimp, scallions, oyster sauce, sugar, salt and pepper to the radish.
- 4. Mix the ingredients thoroughly and add some of the radish water as needed to make a cohesive mixture.
- 5. Pour the mixture into a greased, heatproof pan and smooth the top.
- 6. Place the pan in a steamer or in a wok with a steaming rack and steam for about 45 minutes, until firm.
- 7. Let the cake cool, then cut it into slices.
- 8. Heat the oil in a pan and fry the cake slices on both sides until golden brown.
