Dessert
Num sakoo is a traditional Cambodian dessert of sago pearls and coconut milk, often topped with chopped peanuts. It is sweet and cooling, good on hot days, and pairs chewy pearls with creamy coconut and crunchy nuts.

Ingredients
- 1 cup sago pearls
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped peanuts (optional)
- Mint leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the sago pearls in a sieve under cold running water until the water runs clear.
- Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a medium pot and add the sago pearls.
- Cook, stirring constantly, for about 10-15 minutes until the pearls turn translucent with no white dots left in the center.
- Drain the cooked pearls in a sieve and rinse with cold water to wash off excess starch.
- Return the pearls to the pot, add the coconut milk, sugar and salt and warm over low heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Spoon the dessert into serving bowls and top with chopped peanuts and mint leaves if using.
